Sunflower Play School

PRESEVERING THE MAGIC OF CHILDHOOD THROUGH PLAY-BASED, OUTDOOR-FOCUSEDÂ AND CHILD-LED LEARNING.
Program Values
Relationships: Our learning community honors every child and family. Intentional focus is placed on supporting the development of self-esteem and positive social interactions.
Play: Play is our primary approach to learning. We spend the majority of our day engaged in child selecting, play-based learning opportunities.
Individuality: Every child contributes to our learning community in a unique way. These differences are celebrated and cultivate through individualized instruction and supports.
Time in Nature: We spend extended periods of time outside, rain or shine, to support physical and mental health.

COVID-19 Precautions
As a parent myself, I understand the need to provide a safe and healthy environment during these unprecedented times. Many of my typical practices support a health environment. Extended periods of outdoor play reduce the opportunity for environmental cross-contamination and increase opportunity for social distancing. The small group size limits exposure between multiple children. In addition to these practices, I have enhanced several practices to increase the health and safety of the environment.
Limited  Enrollment
I am licensed to care for no more than 10 children at a time.  As an added precautionary measure, I have limited the availability of part time care options to create a small learning pod. This reduces the number of children your child will come into contact with throughout the week.
Limited Exposure
All program initial tours and interview will be conducted over the phone and after hours, limiting exposure from outside sources. In addition, our sign in/out process is being conducted at the entry of the home, limiting the possibility of outside contaminants entering the building.
Daily Health Checks
Daily health checks will be complete upon arrival, including temperature checks and physical check for symptoms. Any child showing signs or symptoms of illness will be excluded from care until they have been symptom free for a period of 72 hours.
Enhanced Health and Safety Procedures
In addition to regular handwashing and direct instruction on personal hygiene habits, precautions are in place to reduce cross-contamination between children. This includes space to store individual belongings, and the elimination of group sensory play and family style meal service. Upon parent request, children are encouraged to wear a face mask or shield when engaged in close-proximity group play. Extra cleaning measures are in place including daily sanitizing and disinfecting of high touch surfaces, equipment and materials with a high-temperature steam system and/or sanitizing/disinfecting solutions.
About Me
Thank you for your interest in Sunflower Play School. My name is Julie Worrall. With the support of my family, I am the sole caregiver at Sunflower. I have worked in the field of Early Care and Education for 20 years. As a parent of a preschool-age child myself, I was inspired to open Sunflower to create the high quality early-learning experience I wanted for my own child, and to provide an alternative early learning service to the community focused on play, nature and child-led learning. Sunflower offers a small home-care environment while maintaining many of the services and practices you might typically expect to receive from a large child care program. I love the work that I do . Every day is exciting and new as I learn along side the children in my care as they develop into confident, life-long learners. I'm excited to share more about my program with you. Please reach out with any further questions.
